Body found in search for woman missing from ferry travelling from Wales to Ireland

A body has been found in a major search operation for a woman believed to have fallen from a ferry in the Irish Sea.

The alarm was raised just after 8.15am on Friday when the Isle of Inishmore ferry reported that a female passenger had gone overboard.

The vessel was travelling from Pembroke in Wales to Rosslare in Co Wexford.

Dyfed Powys Police confirmed that a body has been located in the Lawrenny area, Pembrokeshire.

The body has not been formally identified at this time.

Dyfed Powys Police officers are working closely with specialist recovery teams from HM Coastguard and the ambulance service to recover the female body.

The UK Coastguard lead the massive air and sea search and sent its helicopter based at St Athan to help.

A statement said: "Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time."

Two Irish Coastguard helicopters also assisted.
