Body of man recovered from sea

The body of a man has been pulled from the sea off north Dublin.

Tests will be carried out to identify the remains, believed to be 24-year-old Paul Byrne missing from Rush since Christmas Day.

A Garda spokesman said fishermen recovered the body in nets in the Irish Sea and brought it to Skerries harbour shortly after 8pm.

It has been removed to the city morgue where a post mortem will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.

Mr Byrne was last seen near his rented home on Sandy Lane at about 3am on Christmas morning, but his last known contact was a text sent to his girlfriend at 10.30am.

His mother Mary, who lives in nearby Lusk, and siblings Stephen and Suzanne raised the alarm when he failed to show up over Christmas. He would have turned 25 on New Year's Eve.

Gardai, the Irish Coast Guard and the civil defence teams have been involved in sea and coastline searches since his disappearance.

When last seen, he was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a short black jacket with the Ralph Lauren logo on the left side.
