Boy, 16, found dead in home after suspected drugs overdose

A 16-year-old boy has been found dead in his home following a suspected drugs overdose.

Gardai said the teenager was discovered in the house in the Deermount area of Deer Park on the south side of Cork city shortly after 10.30am on Monday.

A doctor and an ambulance were called to the home, but the 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardai said the incident is being treated as a sudden death and a local coroner has been notified.

The teenager's body was taken to Cork University Hospital for a post mortem to determine the cause of death while the house was examined by forensic experts.

Gardai in the Bridewell station in Cork are investigating and it is understood one line of inquiry is that the boy may have taken drugs in the hours before his death.
