Carol-singing thief dressed as Santa steals child's Nintendo

By Brian O'Reilly

Police are hunting a carol singing thief who could be as young as 12 after he stole a games console.

The thief called to the door of a house in Co Clare posing as a carol singer.

When the homeowner went to get money to donate, the opportunistic singer grabbed a Nintendo DS before making his escape.

He was dressed as Santa at the time of the incident.

Gardai have described the theft as ‘opportunistic’, according to the Irish Mirror.

The Nintendo DS retails for a price of between €129 and €259, depending on the model.

The console belonged to a 10-year-old boy.

His father told the paper: “You wouldn’t expect a child to do something like this.

“But it is only a DS and there are a  lot of people out there having a tough time coming into Christmas so we will just rock on and make sure that we will have a great Christmas.”
