Gardai have questioned a woman in Dublin today in connection with the violent death of a three-year-old boy.
The child’s body was found in an apartment in Ballybrack, south Dublin when gardai were alerted at 2.45pm on Thursday afternoon.
It is understood the boy died from a stab wound.
Gardai immediately launched a criminal investigation into what sources described as a “dreadful tragedy”.
The woman, who is Irish and in her 40s, was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act a short time later and being held at Dun Laoghaire Garda station.
The alarm was reportedly raised by a friend of the child’s mother.
Gardai were attempting to locate the man this afternoon to inform him of the shocking incident.
The boy's body remained at the scene for several hours after the discovery and the apartment was sealed off for forensic examination by technical experts and preliminary investigations involving the State Pathologist's office.
