Cyclist killed in hit and run crash

A cyclist has been killed in a hit and run in Co Kildare.

The 61-year-old was struck by a vehicle just before 9pm on Tuesday on the Kinnegad to Edenderry road.

Gardai said the incident happened at Carrick, approximately three miles from Carbury.

"The cyclist received fatal injuries and has been taken to Naas General Hospital," said a garda spokesman.

"Witnesses or anyone who may have seen the cyclist on the road or who may have information in relation to the collision are asked to contact the gardai in Leixlip."

The road remained closed for a forensic collision examination and diversions were in place.
