Daniel O'Donnell's truck sinks with cargo of bricks

By Greg Harkin and Majella O'Sullivan

A lorry which sank off a Donegal island while attempting to deliver building materials to a holiday home for Daniel O'Donnell and his wife Majella is to remain unsalvaged.

The vehicle was attempting to unload concrete blocks and other materials on Monday afternoon when it keeled over and plunged into the sea at Owey Island.

Majella O'Donnell has been working on a cottage restoration on the tiny island where Daniel's mother Julia was born.

Salvage experts abandoned their attempts to lift the lorry from the water at low tide. Insurance experts believe it would cost more to salvage the lorry and its load than it would cost to replace them, said one local boat owner.

Meanwhile, the show went on for Daniel in Killarney yesterday.

The crooner was back in the INEC last night for the first of his five sell-out concerts.
