Driver and motorcyclist killed in separate crashes

Two men in their 20s have died in separate road crashes.

One of the victims was the driver of a car that left the road and hit a ditch in Co Monaghan.

The incident happened shortly after midnight at Lurgans, Carrickmacross.

Earlier, a 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed when his bike hit three cars in Co Westmeath.

The collision happened at around 8pm on Saturday near Pigeons, Athlone.

The biker was treated by emergency service at the scene but was later pronounced dead.

The roads where the fatalities occurred have been closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
