A suspected three million euro drugs haul and an assault rifle have been seized during a house raid, organised crime detectives say.

The discovery was made during the search of a house in Sallins, Co Kildare, on Saturday evening.

Suspected heroin and cocaine uncovered at the scene is believed to have a street value of three million euro. It has been sent for forensic analysis.

The assault rifle and a quantity of ammunition also discovered during the raid will undergo ballistic tests.

No arrests have yet been made.

The operation was carried out by the Garda's National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, with back-up from the Special Crime Task Force.

It began at about 8pm and officers remain at the scene, which has been sealed off.
