Eight rescued after fire breaks out in historic Georgian square

Eight people have been rescued after a fire broke out on the top floor of an old Georgian building.

The blaze took hold in the flats on Mountjoy Square near Dublin city centre at around 7am.

Dublin Fire Brigade said it dispatched crews on eight units to deal with the fire.

Five people were taken out of the top windows of the building onto turntable ladders, a spokesman said.

Mountjoy Square North was closed while the search and rescue operation continued.
