Elderly man hit by lorry in Dublin

An elderly man has been hit by a lorry in Clontarf, Dublin.

The accident occurred on Griffith Avenue between the junction of Malahide Road and Philipsburgh Avenue at around midday on Wednesday.

The man, believed to be in his 70s, was taken to Beaumont Hospital.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses.

The victim was one of two people to be struck by a vehicle on Wednesday.

A woman in her 40s was killed when she was hit by a car on the R336 at Baile na hAbhann, Co Galway, at around 6pm.

She was taken to University College Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver was uninjured.
