Family of four threatened at gunpoint and by knife in armed robbery

Gardi believe that terrified family were mistakenly identified as restaurant owners in latest spate of aggravated burglaries

By Conor Freehan

A family were tied-up and threatened by robbers armed with a shotgun and knife in Dublin last night in what Gardai believe was a case of mistaken identity.

Two men armed with a shotgun and a knife burst into the house on Heathfield Way in Finglas at around 10.30pm.

They then threatened the four adult occupants and tied them up while demanding money.

The family who live in the house are from the Phillipines, and garda sources were today examining the possibility that the raiders may have wrongly thought they owned a restaurant and had a large sum of money in the house.

There has been a recent spate of aggravated burglaries on homes where restaurant owners live.

Gardai were today carrying out a forensic examination of the house in the quiet cul-de-sac.
