Family waiting to hear cause of son's death after Phoenix Park gig

By Mark Hilliard

The family of a young man who died shortly after Saturday night's concert at the Phoenix Park is still waiting to discover his exact cause of death.

Shane Brophy (21) from Swan, Co Laois was rushed to hospital five hours after the event when he collapsed at a friend's house in Lucan, Co Dublin.

His funeral is due to take place today at the church in Doonane, Co Laois.

The results of a post-mortem will reveal whether drugs had anything to do with his death.

Meanwhile, the family of a victim of a random stabbing that took place at the event spoke of their anger yesterday.

Bren Lee (25) and his friend Brendan Murphy are both recovering in hospital after being attacked.

"Bren said that Brendan Murphy's partner had been thrown into the mud and dislocated her shoulder," explained Bren's father John at his home in Castleknock, Dublin.

"When Brendan went to help he was attacked too," added Bren's father.

Mr Lee suffered a punctured lung after being stabbed four times and went to hospital at the insistence of his sister, who works as a nurse.

"He's recovering well now but he's on morphine for the pain. I don't think it's hit him yet to be honest," said his father.
