Farmer crushed to death by trailer

Two separate investigations have been launched after a farmer was crushed to death by machinery.

It is understood the man, in his early 60s, was killed when an animal feed trailer he was operating overturned.

The accident happened in a townland at Carnagh East, Kiltoom, Co Roscommon, shortly before 9pm on Monday.

Gardai and officers from the Health and Safety Authority are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The victim was taken to University College Hospital in Galway where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

There have been three fatal farm accidents so far this year, compared with seven in the same period last year and 26 throughout 2010.
