Father admits to raping his daughters
A father yesterday dramatically changed his plea and admitted to a court that he had raped four of his daughters.
The 50-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had denied a total of 271 charges of raping and ill-treating the four children.
He had gone on trial at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Castlebar on Tuesday and had pleaded not guilty to all charges. Prosecuting counsel requested that the accused man be re-arraigned on 14 sample counts. To each of the charges, the accused man replied "guilty".
Mr Justice Paul Carney ordered that he be registered as a sex offender. Sentencing is expected to take place before Christmas.
