Father's grief as toddler is found dead in Limerick home

A father says he has "lost the best part of his life" after being told his two-year-old son was found dead at home.

Toddler Robert Kelly was found in his home on Parnell Street, Limerick, unresponsive after going for a nap.

In an emotional interview, his father Robert Kelly Snr (21) said: "He was a good lad. He was perfect. This shouldn't have happened.

"I love my son and there was nothing suspicious about what happened him."

A post-mortem was being carried out last night to try to ascertain the exact cause of death.

A Garda source confirmed they were not treating the death as suspicious.

Mr Kelly lovingly described his son as the "only reason" he got out of bed in the morning. "He'd come over kissing you... to get biscuits or a packet of crisps."

Mr Kelly had plans to move his son out of Limerick, "take him into the countryside and rear him there". "All them plans were put to a stop today," he said.

"I always told him, 'I'm gonna give you a good life and you'll never be deprived'. And, do you know what he would do, he would try and give me a kiss."
