Folk singer Frances Black seeks new platform
Singer Frances Black will run as an Independent candidate in the forthcoming Seanad elections in the Republic.
The Dubliner secured a nomination from the IBI, the representative body for Ireland's independent commercial radio broadcasters, on the Industrial and Commercial panel.
Black, whose father is from Rathlin Island, said the recent Irish general election showed that many voters don't feel their concerns are being heard.
"If I had a voice in the Seanad, I'd advocate for the voluntary and community sector, and raise awareness about the relationship between addiction and suicide, poverty, child neglect, mental health and homelessness," she said.
