Four children rushed to hospital after suspected strangling

A 35-year-old man has been arrested after four children were found strangled at a home in Co Wicklow overnight.

The youths were discovered at a house in Blainroe shortly after 7.30pm.

They were found after an adult male called to a relative's home to say that the children were dead.

However, when emergency services arrived at the scene they discovered that all four were alive.

Two were airlifted and two were taken by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital and where gardaí said they are in a "serious condition".

A garda spokesman confirmed that officers have arrested a man, in his mid 30's "in connection with an investigation into the serious assault of four children that occurred at Blainroe, County Wicklow yesterday, Friday 3rd June 2016 shortly after 7.30pm."

"Gardaí and Emergency Services attended the scene after the four children were discovered, in a house in a serious condition. All four children were taken to Tallaght Hospital, two were airlifted.

"The man was arrested a short time later and is currently detained at Wicklow Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984."

The scene is preserved for technical examination.
