Four held after cannabis seized

Four men have been arrested following the seizure of 650,000 euro worth of cannabis.

The haul was found when gardai stopped and searched a number of vehicles in a yard on the outskirts of Carlow town at approximately 7.30pm on Friday night.

Two vans, two cars and a quantity of cash were also seized.

A Garda spokesman said the cannabis herb has an estimated street value of up to 650,000 euro pending analysis.

Two men in their 30s, one in his 50s and one in his 20s were arrested at the scene.

They are being questioned at Carlow and Thomastown Garda Stations under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

Gardai from the Garda National Drug Unit, assisted by Carlow detective and drug units, took part in the operation.
