'Gangland' gun attack condemned

A failed gun attack in Dublin has been condemned.

The attempted shooting was blamed on gangland criminals.

Gardai would only say they were investigating a firearms incident, after claims the man targeted in the attack had not reported the incident.

The attack was launched in the Killester area on Saturday morning, but the gunman is said to have fled the scene after his weapon jammed.

Labour Councillor Aodhan O Riordain said: "I am disgusted to learn of the latest gun-related incident in my constituency of Dublin North Central in Killester.

"This particular area is an extremely quiet residential area and the actions that took place there are absolutely outrageous.

"It is clear now that under the government's watch, a new generation of gun-wielding criminals are operating with impunity with no respect for life or law and order."

He added: "Meanwhile, government cutbacks in education and community infrastructure are hitting hardest in areas that need the support to turn young people away from lives of crime.

"I condemn this attack absolutely and I urge anyone with any information to assist the Garda with their inquiries."
