Garda appeal over seriously ill man

The Garda Ombudsman is trying to identify a man who is seriously ill in hospital after blacking out in a cell.

A member of the public stopped a garda at about 6pm on Friday afternoon when the man appeared to be unconscious outside the Arlington Hotel on Lord Edward Street, Dublin.

When he refused to go in an ambulance, he was taken to Pearse Street Garda Station where he later fell ill.

He was rushed to St James' Hospital later where he remains in a serious condition.

He is aged his late 40s to early 50s, is white, of slight build and has greyish hair and a moustache.

The Garda Ombudsman is asking anybody with information that may be of assistance to contact it on 1890 600 800.
