Garda in 6.5m euro drugs seizure

Up to 6.5 million euro of drugs have been seized in a Garda crackdown.

Two men are in custody following the probe by the national drugs unit.

About 35kgs of heroin and cocaine was found in two vehicles in Naas, Co Kildare.

Gardai said the drugs had an estimated street value of between 3.5 million and 5.5 million euro, pending analysis.

Two suspects in their 30s were arrested and were being questioned in Naas under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

A Garda spokesman said more cocaine, cannabis herb and heroin was found in follow-up searches in the Palmerstown and Celbridge areas.

Those seizures had an estimated street value in excess of 1.25 million euro, pending analysis.
