Garda officer attacked with baseball bat

He was hit a number of times and was taken to Tallaght Hospital for treatment.

A Garda officer has suffered injuries to his head, body and face after being hit by a metal baseball bat.

It happened when two officers were surrounded by a mob and attacked while trying to conduct a search of a man on Ballyogan Avenue of Dublin on Saturday.

A spokesman for An Garda Siochana said the officer remained in hospital on Sunday.

A second Garda also required hospital treatment after being bitten by a dog.

Meanwhile, a man in his 50s was arrested and a number of items seized during a follow-up operation involving armed Garda support units.

He has been detained at Dun Laoghaire Garda Station.
