Garda officers injured as patrol vehicles rammed by stolen car

Substantial damage was caused to one of the patrol cars which was hit twice.

Two Garda officers have sustained minor injuries after two patrol vehicles were rammed by a stolen car.

The incident happened as officers tried to stop the vehicle in Co Mayo during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Gardai were responding to a report that a blue Skoda Octavia had been stolen from Horsepark in Castlebar at about 3.30am.

Substantial damage was caused to one of the patrol cars which was hit twice.

Two men, aged 23 and 20, and a 16-year-old male were arrested when the Skoda was found crashed.

They have been detained at Castlebar Garda Station.

A number of Garda units, including armed support officers, had been deployed to deal with the incident.
