Armed gardai have opened fire on a car carrying suspected members of a crime gang after the driver refused to stop.
A 30-year-old man was arrested and a gun and cash recovered from a second car stopped on country roads outside Ballymore Eustace on the Wicklow-Kildare border.
Armed officers from the Organised Crime Unit had been tailing the two cars suspected of carrying members of a Dublin crime gang.
They pulled over one of the cars but also opened fire a number of times after the driver of the other vehicle ignored orders to stop.
The arrested man was detained under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and is being questioned at Naas Garda Station.
A Garda spokesman said investigations are continuing.
