Gardai probe peace project funds
Police in the Republic are investigating suspected fraud involving the misappropriation of funding for a peace project in Northern Ireland.
The probe is looking into the potential misappropriation of almost €140,000 (£122,000) in Irish government funding by a member of a drugs task force. It is understood the person had “sign off” responsibility for the funds.
It was one of a number of potential fraud cases revealed in the community development programme for the socially excluded at the Dail's public accounts committee yesterday.
Among the cases was the misappropriation of funds from a peace scheme in Armagh which was revealed by a whistleblower's letter.
