Gardai slam 'throwaway' campers at Electric Picnic site
Scores of passports, keys and wallets have been recovered from the Electric Picnic site.
The number of found items is down by about half compared with previous years but gardai at the Stradbally garda station in Co Laois said they were run off their feet trying to reunite owners with their lost valuables following last weekend's annual three-day music festival.
Hundreds of valuable items -- including wallets, mobile phones, car keys, passports, cameras and iPods -- were turned into gardai.
Among the booty are the keys to expensive cars that were inexplicably left behind, including those for a Lexus.
Gardai suspect forgetfulness and confusion due to over-imbibing is the main reason for revellers leaving the valuables behind.
But they are less forgiving of those people who left their tents and other camping supplies behind on purpose who factor their "throwaway" camping gear into the price of the weekend.
Even though the picnic hosts an eco-friendly 'Global Green' area each year, none of the abandoned camping gear is being salvaged.
"It's being bulldozed and dumped," one guard said.
