Gerry Adams will always be our leader, says Sinn Fein's Ferris

Kerry county councillor Toireasa Ferris is being tipped to replace her father Martin on the Sinn Fein ticket at the next election.

Ms Ferris, who has repeatedly refused to condemn the killers of Detective Garda Jerry McCabe, was given the prime time television slot to introduce Gerry Adams to the party's ard fheis on Saturday night.

She described Mr Adams as "a great giant" and said despite his decision to step down he "will always, always be our leader".

Ms Ferris famously appeared on RTE's The Late Late Show in 2006 and refused to condemn the killers of Detective Garda McCabe.

She caused major controversy by saying she was "not authorised" to condemn the killing.

Martin Ferris, who has served time in prison for gun-running, has been a TD since 2007.

He collected two of McCabe's killers when they were released from prison in 2009.
