Girl dies and boy seriously injured in Easter Sunday crash

A girl has died and a boy has been seriously injured after a road crash in Co Galway on Easter Sunday.

Gardai said the children were cycling between Ballinasloe and Ahascragh when there was a collision between them and a car.

The incident happened on the R358  at about noon.

Both children were taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe. The girl, nine, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The boy, seven, remains in a serious condition.

The road was closed to allow a forensic examination to be carried out.

Officers have appealed for anyone with any information about the accident to contact Ballinasloe garda station on 0909-631890.
