Heartache as four pals die in Co Kildare road collision

The family of one of the young women killed alongside three friends in a horrific road collision in the Republic has spoken of the moment they heard of the crash.

The parents of Gemman Nolan (19) said they feared the worst when the girls did not arrive in Carlow late on Tuesday night.

Their daughter was killed instantly alongside childhood friends Aisling Middleton (19), Niamh Doyle (19) and Chermaine Carroll (20) in the crash near Athy in Co Kildare.

A fifth friend, Dayna Kearney (20), was driving the Volkswgen Polo which was involved in a collision with a van. She is in a serious condition in intensive care.

The occupants of the van, Polish nationals Mariusz Wawrzos and Przemyslaw Gorkowy, both living in Carlow, were also injured.
