A young Co Donegal woman killed in a road collision in the Republic was a teacher and mother-of-two, it was revealed yesterday.

Dawn Croke was fatally injured when she was struck by a car close to St Crona's National School in Dungloe, Co Donegal, on Thursday evening at around 6.30pm.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ms Croke, who was in her 30s, was a teacher at the local Rosses Community School, where her father Tony also works. The school was closed yesterday as a mark of respect, and a spokesperson said: "Our school wishes to send our love and support to the family, school and local community at this sad time.

"We, the school community, remember with love and fondness our colleague Dawn. We pray for her family and friends at this sad time."

A six-year-old girl was also injured and was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital.

The driver of the car was uninjured.
