Irish PM Brian Cowen's garda escort car struck by stolen vehicle
A Garda Special Branch car escorting Taoiseach Brian Cowen was struck by a stolen vehicle during a high speed chase.
The two detectives in the garda car were not injured in the collision as the driver of the stolen car tried to overtake a line of cars at traffic lights in Dublin.
The detectives were following the Taoiseach's official car as Mr Cowen was being driven home on Thursday night from a late cabinet meeting.
The three men in the stolen car sped off after the collision, pursued by a couple of garda patrols.
When the chase reached Crawford Avenue in Ballyfermot, the occupants of the stolen car abandoned it in a field and ran away. They were chased on foot and arrested shortly afterwards. Gardai said the three were aged between 16 and 20 years.
