Irish woman dies after bull mastiffs attack her in Galway village

A woman in the Republic of Ireland has died after she was attacked by two dogs in a horrific incident in Co Galway.

Emergency services were called to the scene in the village of Moycullen at around 3pm yesterday. It has been learned that the woman, named locally as Teresa McDonagh, who was in her 60s, was attacked by two bull mastiff dogs at a home.

Neighbours came to her aid and shot the animals as emergency services rushed to the scene. Ms McDonagh suffered horrific injuries in the attack and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her remains were moved to University Hospital, Galway yesterday evening.

A post mortem is now expected to take place. An inquest is due to take place over the coming days.

Gardai attended the scene and a full investigation is under way. Gardai are investigating if the dogs escaped from a shed before attacking the woman.
