Jim Carrey's grief at death of Irish lover Cathriona White

By David Kearns

Hollywood film star Jim Carrey has spoken of his shock and sadness at the sudden death of his on-off Irish girlfriend.

It was last night confirmed that Cathriona White (30) was found dead at a residence in LA.

It is understood a note was found near her body and the death is being treated by investigators as a suicide. The Irish woman, from Cappawhite, Co Tipperary, first met Carrey on a film set in 2012.

In a statement released last night, Carrey (53) said: "I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona.

"She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled.

"My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt."

Ms White's last tweet was on Thursday and said: "Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest."
