Jobs boost at contact lens plant

Some 100 jobs are being created at a contact lens plant run by healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson.

Vistakon Ireland is to invest 100 million euro at the Limerick facility with the new recruits to be taken on over the next six months.

About 200 construction workers will be on site during the 18 month extension and upgrade works.

Vistakon Ireland was established in Limerick in 1996. A subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, it designs, manufactures and markets the Acuvue range of soft disposable contact lenses, the world's number one brand.

The investment was backed by IDA Ireland.
