Man arrested after armed robbery

One man has been arrested and a handgun has been seized after an armed robbery in Co Kildare.

At around 8.15am on Sunday, two men armed with a firearm entered a shop in Johnstown.

They threatened staff before escaping with a sum of money.

Gardai said there were no shots fired during the raid and no one was injured.

The alarm was raised and gardai arrested a man near the scene. They recovered a gun along with a sum of money a short time later.

The man, who is aged in his 30s, was arrested in connection with the incident and has been detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act 1939 at Naas Garda station.

A second man involved in the incident escaped in a car. The vehicle has since been located.

Gardai urged anyone with information to come forward.
