Man arrested after pensioner seriously injured in attack

A man has been arrested after a pensioner was attacked in Dublin.

Gardai in Mountjoy are investigating a serious assault on a man aged in his 70s which occurred at about 2am on Saturday at Courtney Place, Ballybough.

The man suffered serious head and spinal injuries in the assault and was taken to The Mater Hospital, where he is in a critical condition.

A man in his 50s was arrested on Saturday afternoon and was detained at Mountjoy Garda Station.

The scene at Courtney Place was preserved and investigations are ongoing.
