Gardai investigating child protection concerns at Scouting Ireland have arrested a man in his 70s.
The probe relates to sexual offences alleged to have occurred over a 30-year period.
It surrounds a number of complaints relating to an individual associated with Scouting Ireland, an all-island organisation, and the force said it has carried out a lengthy inquiry.
Gardai from the Protective Services Unit in Cork city carried out four searches at properties in Co Cork and one in Co Kerry.
They seized documentation, electronic devices and computers.
The force is continuing to liaise with the review group and child and family agency Tusla.
It said: “Each and every complaint made to An Garda Siochana will be investigated with professionalism and compassion.
“An Garda Siochana is appealing to any victim(s) who have not yet come forward to make a complaint at their local Garda station or via the confidential historical abuse phone line.”
The man is being detained at Togher Garda Station.
