Man critically ill after assault in Co Meath

A man has been left critically ill after an assault in Co Meath.

The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday morning in Navan.

The man, 21, was in the Watergate Street area when he was attacked at about 3am.

He was initially taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda but was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, where he is in a critical condition, a Garda spokesman said.

Garda have launched an investigation and are appealing for anyone who was in the Watergate Street area between 2.45am and 3.30am, and who may have witnessed the assault, or any motorists who may have passed through, to contact officers at Navan Garda Station on 046 – 9036100.
