Man crushed to death in workplace

A man has died in a workplace accident at a farm supplier in Co Cork.

It is understood the man was crushed between the back of a truck and a loader at Henry Good Ltd outside Kinsale.

Gardai said the man was in his early 50s.

Both the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) and the gardai have launched investigations into the cause of the accident.

The HSA said 48 people were killed in workplace accidents last year, with 60% occurring in the farming, logging and fishing sectors.

Father-of-two Pat Byrne, 48, from Stradbally, Co Laois, was killed last week when he was crushed while loading cars on to a truck while picking them up from the Windsor car dealership in Ballybrit, Co Galway.

Mr Byrne was collecting damaged cars from the dealership's repair department for his brother Martin Byrne's car dismantling business in Killone, outside Stradbally, when the incident happened.
