Man dies after being hit by 4x4 vehicle

A man has been killed and his daughter seriously injured in a road accident.

Gardai said the pair were walking on the R120 Newcastle Road between Lucan and Newcastle in west Dublin at about 9pm on Tuesday when the collision occurred.

The man, in his 60s, was struck by a 4x4 vehicle.

His 17-year-old daughter was treated in hospital but her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Gardai said the road was closed for several hours to allow forensic collision investigators on to the scene, and they also appealed for witnesses.

Four people have been killed in road accidents in recent days.

Two elderly women were struck by a car after getting off a bus in Co Louth on Monday, and another woman was killed in Callan, Co Kilkenny, on Sunday.
