Man dies in gun attack on Dublin street

By David Young, PA

A man has been shot dead in Tallaght, south Dublin.

Gardai said the man, reported to have been a 28-year-old fitness instructor, was hit a number of times in the attack in the Fortunestown Lane area.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 9.20pm last night.

“The injured man received medical assistance at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later,” a Garda spokesperson said.

“A post mortem is to be arranged.”

The scene was cordoned off last night as gardai carried out a forensic examination.

They have appealed for information.

It was not known last night if the murder is linked to an ongoing gangland feud that has led to 12 murders and several shootings in the Irish Republic and further afield.

The Hutch and Kinahan gangs have been involved in a deadly feud over the past two years.
