Man held by detectives after woman murdered in Sligo

Detectives investigating the murder of a young woman in Sligo have arrested a suspect.

The victim, aged in her early 20s, was found mortally injured at a house on Mailcoach Road before being rushed to Sligo Regional Hospital for medical attention.

She was pronounced dead a short time later. Armed gardai responding to the call-out said they tasered a man wielding a knife at the house.

A 33-year-old man has since been arrested. He is being held at Sligo Garda station under section four of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Emergency services were alerted to an incident at the house at around 10.30am yesterday.

Investigators said they encountered a man aged in his early 30s carrying a knife at the scene. The murder scene has been sealed off.
