A man has been arrested by officers investigating the murders of William Maughan and Anastasija Varslavane.

The couple were last seen in the Gormanston area of Co Meath in April 2015.

Detectives at Ashbourne, members of the serious crime team and Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI) arrested the man in relation to inquiries into the activities of an organised crime group based in the Co Louth and Co Meath areas.

The suspect, who is an English national in his 50s, was arrested in Meath and is being detained at Ashbourne garda station. He can be held for up to seven days.
