Man held over armed raid at bookies

A man has been arrested after an armed robbery at a city centre betting shop, gardai said.

A masked man held up staff at the bookmakers on Westmoreland Street in central Dublin during the evening rush hour.

Detectives say he threatened workers in the shop with a gun and demanded they hand over cash.

He fled the scene on foot with what is being described as an undisclosed amount of money.

Gardai said a man in his late 20s was arrested during a "follow-up operation" at Foster Place, around the corner from the bookmakers.

Cash and a firearm were recovered.

A Garda spokesman said no one was injured during the incident.

The arrested man is being held at Pearse Street Garda station under section four of the Criminal Justice Act.

"Investigations are continuing," added the spokesman.
