Man injured in 'pipe bomb' blast

A man has been injured after he opened his front door and a suspected pipe bomb exploded.

The blast happened at about 8am on Wednesday at his home in Navan, Co Meath, as he went to leave the house.

The man suffered minor injuries and was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment.

There was minor damage to the front door of the house in the Beechgrove area.

A garda technical team is carrying out forensic examinations in an attempt to establish if a pipe bomb was used in the attack.
