Man quizzed over 2000 disappearance

A man has been arrested by detectives investigating the disappearance of a woman more than a decade ago.

Sandra Collins vanished in her home village of Killala in Co Mayo on December 4 2000.

A 46-year-old was arrested in the Ballina area, where he is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

A 21-year-old woman questioned on suspicion of withholding evidence has been released without charge.

Ms Collins was 29 when she vanished. She had left her aunt's house, where she lived and for whom she was a carer, to go to the local shop and bought some groceries.

She was last seen at about 11.15pm, more than three hours later, at the local takeaway.

When last seen, she was wearing black trousers, a maroon polo-neck jumper, a beige sleeveless jacket with a hood, and black boots.

Four days later, on December 8, her fleece was found on the pier in Killala with a half-pound of sausages Ms Collins had bought in the shop still in the pocket.
