Man released over death of woman

A Lithuanian man arrested following the death of a woman found seriously injured on a roadside has been released without charge.

The 35-year-old woman, also from the Baltic state, was discovered by the Couse Bridge roundabout on the outer ring road of Waterford city after midnight on Saturday.

The woman was found by gardai and taken by ambulance to Waterford Regional Hospital where she died.

A 29-year-old man was later arrested and taken in for questioning under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

He was freed late on Sunday night.

The woman's death is being treated as suspicious but a hit-and-run accident has been ruled out.
