Man stopped in street 'had guns'

Detectives investigating gangland crime have arrested a man and seized two firearms.

The man in his 40s was stopped and searched in the Applewood area of Swords, north Dublin, at around 8pm on Saturday night.

The Garda Organised Crime Unit said they discovered two firearms and a quantity of ammunition in a bag the man was carrying. He was taken to Swords Garda station for questioning under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

The firearms and ammunition have been sent for technical examination.

Gardai said the arrest was part of an ongoing operation targeting the activities of a north Dublin criminal gang.
