Man taken to hospital after elderly couple found dead in their home

An elderly couple have been found dead in their rural home, gardai have said.

The man, aged in his late 70s, and the woman, aged in her 60s, were found at a house in the Knockadoon area near the village of Irishtown, Co Mayo, a few kilometres from Ballindine.

Gardai said the discovery was made shortly after 3pm.

A man in his late 30s was also found at the scene with serious injuries.

Gardai said he was taken to Galway University Hospital for treatment and the State Pathologist's office had been called in to examine the bodies at the house.

Forensic officers are also due to carry out examinations at the scene.
